Vulnerability and Equity Analysis
This Vulnerability and Equity Analysis summarizes the sectors and assets that are exposed and vulnerable to climate change hazards on Kaua‘i. The analysis draws upon existing companion documents produced by County agencies, State agencies, community organizations, universities, non-profits, and research organizations. The findings of this document will inform the development and prioritization of adaptation measures in the Climate Adaptation Plan process.
Climate Hazard Review Paper
The Climate Hazard Review Paper synthesizes the current scientific knowledge of the climate change hazards that Kauaʻi, and Hawai‘i at large, face now and in the future. It builds on scientific studies and existing local plans to provide a comprehensive baseline understanding of climate change, which will inform the next steps of the Kauaʻi Climate Adaptation Plan.
Engagement Summaries
Talk Story Summary
The Talk Story Summary provides an overview of conversations that were held with 36 individuals representing 26 community groups. The talk stories were conducted as part of the Climate Adaptation Plan’s pre-planning stage, in which the community’s input will inform the design of the Climate Adaptation Plan’s engagement process.
Survey 1 Summary
This is a summary of the over 400 responses to the Community Survey on Climate Change Impacts in Kauaʻi which was open from March through mid-May of 2022. The purpose of the survey was to gather information about community members’ opinions of and experiences with the impacts of climate change island wide and in their specific communities.
Youth Climate Change Summit Summary
This report provides an overview of the ideas, knowledge, and opinions that Kauaʻi’s youth shared during the County’s first ever Youth Climate Change Summit.
Open House Series 1 Summary
This report summarizes the key findings from community input during the first series of open house events. This includes the Online Open House and the five In-Person Open Houses held from late March through early April 2022. The purpose of the open houses was to understand personal and local community experiences with climate hazards and adaptation measures.
Climate Adaptation Strategies Workshops Summary
This report summarizes the key findings from Online and five In-Person Climate Adaptation Strategies Workshops held in May through June 2023. The purpose of the workshops was to hear community members’ opinions about potential climate adaptation measures to be included in the KCAP and gather input on how they might apply in their area.
